One thing we have been acutely aware of over the years is the need for more women at the highest echelons of RICS leadership. What this report shows again this year is that we have a healthy process for recruiting women into the organisation, but we are still lacking in our recruitment and retention of strong female leaders in our most senior positions and are prioritising efforts to fix this.
The salaries of women versus men in senior leadership roles is one of the key drivers of the gender pay gap. The gap has widened from 16.7% in 2020 to 22.5% for 2021. It was 19.7% in 2019, so this is clearly disappointing, particularly given the efforts we have been making to eliminate equal pay anomalies and recruiting women into senior leadership roles.
Our gender bonus gap, however, is 26.2% in favour of women.
Our ‘CEO Pay Ratio’ (how my pay compares with the median salary of all RICS employees in the UK) is 6:1. Companies listed on the London Stock Exchange are required to report their ratio to the UK government. We are not included in this legislation but we are publishing this figure as an example of our commitment to transparency. While it is not a direct comparator to our organisation, the average ratio of FTSE 250 companies is 28:1.
